About Us

About the Family & Sports Medicine Centre

The practice was founded in 1978. The founding members of the practice were Dr. Louis Gallo and Dr. Ron Muratore. The two founding members both resided in the Gladesville area and decided that they would join in establishing a practice. Lou had returned from a long term at Newcastle & Camperdown Children's Hospital and Ron had been in a general practice in Haberfield.

The two founding members purchased a single storey, three-bedroom home that was then owned by the Creasy family. Lou and Ron conducted this "two doctors" practice for 3 years and then decided that the practice had grown sufficiently to invite an associate into the practice.

During the next 11 years the two principles invited many associates through the practice, of which some of these are still with the practice. Some of the doctors who have worked through this practice are Drs. Deirdre O'Dea, Michael Evans, Lynne Dowd, Kuldeep Sidhu, Maria Annese, Susan McKenzie, Jill Tozer, Sam Sorrenti, Con Paleologos, Alison Free, Janette Horn, and Ben Ticehurst.

In 1988 the practice underwent a complete re-build. The three-bedroom home that Drs Gallo & Muratore had worked in was demolished and the construction of a new purpose-built building began. During this building phase, the doctors operated their business from two portable demountable sheds. This was a rather disruptive time for the doctors but in the end, was worth the wait.

In March of 1989, the new building was opened by the then captain of the Balmain and Australian Rugby League teams, Mr. Wayne Pearce and dedicated to Mr. & Mrs. Creasy the original owners of the site.

The practice now provided the doctors with 4 purpose build consulting rooms with their own toilet facilities, a large waiting room area with dedicated space for children, a mother's changing room, a treatment / emergency room specifically for procedures and ECG's. An extensive physiotherapy business was also annexed to the practice.

Due to the growing size of the practice, in 1992 the two principles appointed Joseph Gallo as the Practice Manager to oversee the day to day running of the practice.
